The Mindful Tech Way To Make Bulletproof Coffee




If you follow us on Instagram @themindfultechlab then you have probably seen us post about adding butter and oil to our coffee, which is also known as “Bulletproof” coffee or fatty coffee. We start most days of the week with this type of coffee for breakfast, and you can read about the many benefits of adding butter and oil to your coffee here.

We get a ton of questions about how to make Bulletproof coffee, including questions about what ingredients we use, serving sizes, and substitutions that we recommend. This article is meant to answer all of your questions so that you too can start enjoying this delicious and nutritious beverage for breakfast yourself!

How The Mindful Tech Lab makes Bulletproof coffee:




Step 1: Brew two cups of coffee

We use a French Press to brew our coffee, and we steep the coffee for 3-4 minutes which is considered the optimal amount of time to brew this style of coffee.

We also recommend you use organic, high quality coffee beans and grind them at home. If you don’t have a grinder, then just make sure the ground coffee is fresh – the worst is brewing up old coffee. Fresh coffee will not only taste better, but it will also be higher in antioxidants, which are compounds that fight off free radicals and prevent cellular damage. Step 2: Add ingredients to your blender

To a blender add:

  • 1-2 tbsp grass-fed butter (no substitutions here, all of the health benefits come from grass-fed)
  • 1-2 tbsp MCT oil (instead you can also use coconut oil if you like. The benefit of  MCT oil is that it is basically taking the most beneficial fat from coconut oil and concentrating it into an oil)
  • 1-2 scoops collagen peptides (no substitution here, collagen peptides are beneficial for your hair, skin, nails, and digestion – read more about collagen here and here)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional, but we love the flavor and the health benefits it adds – read about the many health benefits of cinnamon here)




Step 3: Add brewed coffee to blender

Mix the coffee with the ingredients and blend to a frothy consistency. We usually mix for 30-60 seconds.



Step 4: Add coffee to favorite mug and add non-dairy milk (optional)

I love adding unsweetened vanilla almond milk to my coffee – I probably add 2 cups total! You certainly don’t have to add non-dairy milk because the coffee is good on its own, but I like adding the extra liquid to make my coffee last longer plus to get more fluids in me.
